Michael R. Josephs is a senior partner and one of the founding members of The Josephs Law Firm. He has been engaged in a multifaceted civil trial practice for over 44 years, with a focus on complex commercial litigation, personal injury, wrongful death, products liability and professional negligence. From 1977 until 2012, Mr. Josephs served as the managing partner of Josephs Jack and its predecessors, and continues his practice today with his son.
Mr. Josephs attended the University of Florida and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1966, majoring in accounting. He attended the University of Miami School of Law and obtained a Juris Doctor, cum laude, in 1969. That same year, he was admitted to The Florida Bar and also became a member of the American Bar and Dade County Bar Associations. Mr. Josephs was admitted to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Trial Bar, in 1983. He was admitted to practice before the United States District Court in 1969, the United States Court of Appeals in 1978 and the United States Supreme Court in 1978.
Early in his career, Mr. Josephs became involved in Florida Bar activities. He served as Chairman of the Grievance Committee “11G” of The Florida Bar and was a member of The Florida Bar Committee on Continuing Legal Education and was appointed to the Supreme Court/Florida Bar Joint Committee on Mentoring where he was elected chairman. He was a member of The Florida Bar Standing Committee on Professionalism, serving as its Chairman for two years, and also served on the Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism and 11th Circuit Commission on Professionalism.
In the past, he has also served as a member and then Chairman of the Coral Gables Pension & Retirement Board, was an Adjunct Professor at St. Thomas Law School in the Trial Advocacy Program and regularly volunteers in the Dade County Circuit Court Guardian Ad Litem Program. He is a sustaining member of The American Association of Justice, a Diplomate of the Florida Justice Association and a former Member of the Academy’s Board of Directors, a member of the General Tort “Strike Force” Committee, FLAG, EAGLE, Dade County Trial Lawyers Association and the American Board of Trial Advocates.
Mr. Josephs has lectured at a variety of Florida Bar seminars, as well as other continuing legal education events and in 2008, was the recipient of the Sookie Williams Award for Outstanding Service to the Legal Community awarded at the Dade County Bar Association’s 92nd Installation Celebration presented by Chris Mobley, Publisher of the Daily Business Review, and President of the Florida Division of ALM Media. He has been regularly honored as a “Super Lawyer” and has been selected as one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers in the National Trial Lawyers Association for 2012 and 2013.
